Mel Gibson and the Passion movie again…

A man goes to see Mel Gibson’s new movie, The Passion, and is inspired to take his family to Israel to see the places where Jesus lived and died.  While on vacation his mother-in-law dies.

An undertaker in Tel Aviv explains that they can ship the body home to Wisconsin at a cost of $10,000 or the mother-in-law could be buried in Israel for US$500.

The man says, “We’ll ship her home.”

The undertaker asks, “Are you sure? That’s an awfully big expense and we can do a very nice burial here.”

The man says, “Look, 2000 years ago they buried a guy here and three days later he rose from the dead. I just can’t take that chance.”

  1. FWIW, undertaker fees in Israel can reach much more than $500, since there’s essentially a monopoly of the religeous Hevra Kadisha for the service.

And you can’t get buried in Tel-Aviv; there are no vacancies left.

  2. It seems that cremation would be an option. Besides, rising from the ashes would be alot cooler than simply rising from the dead.

So, when does the new Dawn of the Dead hit the theaters?

  3. Good, joke, Phil.

Though there is people who still think that by throwing a dead body into the supposed Jesus tomb the person will revive like it happened to the body thrown into Elisha’s tomb.

Also, normal believers would want to be buried in Israel, the land where God appeared to Abraham, Moses, Samuel,Elijah, Isaiah,Jeremiah,..Jesus…

    I am still old fashioned.
I rather be buried or frozen in liquid nitrogen than cremated.

As for the movie, I made several comments in the Catholic forum about it.

The problem with the movie is that Mel doesn’t show the motives the jewish authrities had in arresting Jesus.

To me the movie is not anti-jewish . Mel deleted what the priest and their men did to Jesus. They also deleted what Herod did to Jesus.

I am a regular at the Ask Jesus and Catholic Forums. I am a Christian Yahwist.
I am someone who believes Jesus is not God himself, but the one God Yahweh sent to show us the God to salvation.

One side of my family was Jewish in France many centuries ago. Grandpa did not have a registry, but a memory about his ancestors had said. That this must be kept a secret. This was in 1985, 2 years before he died.

  4. Good joke , Dr Phil .

    I was just thinkin bout your . . uh . . hmmm . . u m m m ? headline ?

an interesting idea every three months;. . . a posting every day

I think I like the three month thing .

    but . . . that’s just me

  5. I haven’t seen the movie, nor do I know the bible very well. (good catholic that I am…) But could this be a case of: bible-story = anti-jewish, movie = bible-story so movie=anti-jewish.

One major recurring flaw of the PC crowd seems to be taking things like song lyrics too literal or basing their opinion on one scene or phrase.

If the movie is based closely on the book and the book is anti-jewish, shouldn’t the book, which is found in every hotel room on the western world, undergo the same treatment?

Who know, the reason that the dead sea scrolls haven’t been made public is that they contain the first page of the old testament, reading: “All characters portrayed in this work are fictionous, any resemblence to any persons living or dead is purely coincidental”.

  6. Is it just me, or is does this movies have a, um, clouded chain of evidence?

I mean, This guy was brought before some colonial leadership, found guilty of some heinous crime and then executed.

Fortunately, this guy had made a really deep impression on a whole lot of people who, after 20 some odd years, decided to write it all down.

Then , some eighteen hundred-odd years later, a person who is so inspired by the recollected writings of the guy who had been executed has a bunch of visions and even suffers the same wounds as the guy that was executed.

More recently, even though the person that had the visions would currently be treated (effectively too) for a variety of mental disorders, somebody decides to produce a movie, based in the ‘inspired’ rantings of a person who read a 1800 year old book that was written 20 years after a truly interesting person was executed.

And we are supposed to draw some sort of realistic view of reality, or current world affairs based on this movie.

Am I the only person that is scratching their head?

  7. Gary, the long post you did can be resumed in a few simple words: “I don’t beleive in Jesus.” Now please post the real questions that make you scratch your head. Because I’m scratching mine too and I want to take part in the discussion.

  9. Believe in Jesus? Sure, there is plenty of evidence for the man. And the things that he did were truly magnificent, why else would his words echo so strongly today.

What I do not believe in is the manipulation of those words to promote political aims. There is a long history of this, and I believe that the images that are cast in this recent movie has more to do with inflaming the sensibilities of believers than spreading any message that christ ever gave

  10. Gary, I totally agree with your last post. I’m unable to develop more…my english is too bad for this subject, I don’t want to be misunderstood.

  11. Great joke! I saw the Passion and did love the movie. Very moving. I do believe that the Bible is accurate and that Jesus is the Son of God. If anyone is interrested, you should check out this book. I could not put it down when I bought it. The Case for Christ by Lee Strobel. Great book. He was a legal editor and went out to disprove God…and became a Christian. I hate to read, but I am telling you guys…great book. If you like that book ,the you will love his other book, The Case for Faith. Good buys… both! 🙂
