Robots to bury Canadian trees instead of letting them burn (massive CO2 release)?

CO2 emissions from Canada 2023 on the same order of magnitude as all North American fossil fuel CO2 emission. (Nature Magazine) The effect on U.S. air quality of recent fires was pernicious (“Air quality: 1980s Ponderosa smoking section”).

How about a solar-powered robot that can go through a Canadian forest, pick out every fourth tree, cut it down, and bury it? The idea has sort of been explored, but without the robot angle, in a different Nature Magazine article: “Optimal spatiotemporal thinning schemes combined with wood vaulting could maximize the forest biomass carbon sink in China” (2025).

ChatGPT suggests some improvements to the scheme:

It also says that simple burial isn’t sufficient. One must construct a “vault” that minimizes infiltration of oxygen and water.

Here’s a July 28 map of “out of control” fires in Canada (constantly updated source):

The idea is dumb, you say? How dumb is it compared to building millions of robots to somehow terraform Mars into a livable planet? Speaking of Mars, let’s have a look at SpaceX stock:

Who bought at $202 based on I am buying a lot of SpaceX stock; what will it be worth? and SpaceX is worth $63/share according to the most expert experts?

Finally, what about the fires in the Islamic world? The New York Times says that the burning is unprecedented. Could forests in the Dar al-Islam reasonably be thinned? My impression was that the pre-Islamic (“legacy”) Europeans already did as much cutting within what used to be their forests as was conceivably reasonable to do. It’s not a Canadian-style situation where there aren’t roads into the forests, right?

  1. We could ask my ex and her much older Boomer husband (AKA the Evil Queen and Cooked Prince Charming, complete with matching skin flaps on their arms) to stop driving a Class A RV, would probably make a measurable drop in the concentration of CO_2 in a couple years. She took a similar trip to Phil’s this summer to the Pacific Northwest (you might have seen them in Olympia NP Phil, they look like giant demented flying squirrels and drove a rig larger than Bon Jovi’s tour bus). Probably took 600 gallons of fuel (more than Neo Hippy has used in 20 years) back and forth from their charming village in Florida.

Hard to live happily ever after darlin’, with planet roasting fools at the helm. (Greta, we need you back. I forgive you, but imma have to run a background check on you again with your latest antics.)

    • So what I’m hearing here is that you would take her back if she did some elective surgery on the arm flaps?

    • @OAG

No, I don’t think even if she had more work done than Kim K. I would “get back with her”. The Evil Queen is hopelessly chopped, especially inside like that rotten Canadian cucumber. I will probably always have some love for her, though, if you can call Stockholm Syndrome “love”.

My real point, and back to the topic at hand, is that until we can get people back from whatever delusional reality they exist in, we are just all headed towards being “cooked” and “chopped”. We could start by laying off the ceaseless, super-amateur “armchair political quarterbacking”. But who am I kidding? It’s gotten so many people strongly addicted. All hope is gone on that front, I’m afraid.

    • Read from Trump’s script much?

I got news for you bub. Klaatu’s remote telemetered space IQ-ometer (there is some interference from Musky’s space junk constellation) is reading low Earth-wide, and using advanced calculus on a downward trend. Especially in places like Washington and Mogadeshu. Canada was one of the only friends America had left. (Disclaimer: Deez Nutz is an American.) Suid Afrika’s average IQ went up, up, up when Musky snuck into the U.S.

    • Nope, not Trump news. worked and communicated online with real Canadians.
What Canadians need is more fighting private finance (usury), invite more H@mas migrants and keep electing government banking socialists to rule it all. Maybe if Canada keeps it up one Bangladesh will build them oil pipeline to East coast.
I already advocated building border fence on our norther border. Not a Trump agenda.

    • Technically Musk went to Canada first as an “enriching immigrant” (did I get that term right Phil?), since his mommy was Canadian. Then he enriched himself for real in America. I don’t think that Canadians are really any dumber than Americans (how many Somalians did we let in?) Plus they took in all those dirty draft-dodging hippies during ‘Nam, we should thank them for making our country smell better (no offense Neo Hippy and Redneck Hippy). Boomers should thank them for all the lumber for their McMansions. Etc., etc. Hats off and hands over hearts, please:

  2. Just chop down all the trees in the world & build highrise condos. That’ll get rid of all the CO2 by getting rid of that pesky carbon fixation process. The $billion trillion large language models say this is the way.

Elon isn’t colonizing Mars anymore. Now, the future is large language models.

  3. Recent Canadian forest fires had a negative effect on respiratory health, as documented by P. Greenspun et al. Climate crisis has become a health crisis. We study the issue as applied to Dominion of Canada. An average resident of Canada (R1) consumes about 16.34 tonnes of CO2 vs 0.67 tonnes consumed by an average resident of a certain third world country (R3). Previous solution by His Majesty’s Government was to move a large number of R3s to Canada. However, once R3s were introduced into the Canadian environment, their CO2 consumption met or exceeded R1 levels. We propose a new solution, to replace the previous well-meaning approach. New solution would greatly extend the existing MAID network, operating under a health emergency mandate. This would rapidly reduce the population of R1s, resulting in statistically significant decrease of CO2. But what about CO2 currently stored in R1s? We have been assured by a very knowing American academic in Toronto, that a healthy R1 could provide the most nourishing and wholesome food for multiple R3s. R1s could be fried or stewed based on cultural preferences of R3s. Additionally, R1’s carcass could be flayed, providing leather for R3’s basketball shoes. We submit our cheap, easy and effectual proposal for further review by the greater academic community.

    • Damn, we just threw out a Canadian cucumber that we bought yesterday. Frickin’ water got under the plastic shrink wrap and it was rotten inside (looked just fine outside, like Chinese drywall and A.I.). Wonder how much CO_2 that generated. Let’s occupy Canada until they can make a cucumber again. Currently much too high to understand anything you are saying here Canuck Dr. Fauci. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
